Heating Up Some Competition: A Scoville Giveaway

In case you haven’t heard by now, the town of Scoville likes their peppers. Like, they really like peppers. They eat, sleep, and write stories about peppers. In 1999, they changed the name of their town from Midlandsburg to Scoville so it matched up with the Scoville Scale – the one that measures the hotness of peppers. In this town, the hotter, the better.

Fortunately, that’s what this game is all about!

In Scoville, players are running a communal pepper farm, wherein you plant, grow, and harvest different kinds of peppers for various clientele in town. However, the location of your planted peppers matters for the all-important aspect of crossbreeding them into more potent kinds. There’s only so much planting space, and farmers are competing to ensure they have the peppers they need.

Yes, the need for heat is high in these parts, and Scoville is one hot game!

So hot, in fact, that we simply can’t keep it in our hands. So, we’re handing it off to you!

Scoville is a simple to teach strategy game that rewards careful planning and resource management. Players have to ensure that they can grow and breed the right peppers they need to get the best results of their chili cookoffs.

Those recipes are randomized each game, each of them stating which peppers are required to claim the recipe and how many points they are worth for doing so. Obviously the hotter the pepper, the more points they are worth.

Some of Scoville’s recipes can be pretty clever, as seen from some of the fan-made recipes from the Kickstarter campaign:

We’re continuing that tradition. For you see, at the time of the Scoville Chili Cookoff, one of the scribes here at the CR forgot to enter our recipe into the contest, and it never was able to be judged by Old Lady Jenkins and Farmer Dan.

That’s where you come in. We want your help to name it.

Here is our recipe:

As part of our contest, we want to hear your suggestion on what our official Scoville recipe name should be. How cool is that?

Hot. We meant hot.

From now until midnight on Friday, January 30th, you can check the contest out on our Facebook page, or by entering below. Just follow the entry form, and proceed with the contest. The more you do, even if just one, you still have a better chance than not entering at all. Of course you’re welcome to do that too. But your odds of winning drop to zero. No pressure or anything.
