Expansions:

Fantasy Flight is . . . wait, you know what. Nope. This is what FF is up to. That’s a link to their news feed, which is updated about 12,458 times a day whenever a new expansion-like product is announced, described, and/or produced. Which is cool and all, because that’s what their news feed is for. But seriously.

Crowdfunding Corner:

Iron Edda: War of Metal and Bone is an RPG setting for the Fate Core system. It’s rooted primarily in Norse mythology, with a little extra magic thrown in for spice. The project looks ambitious, but its already hit its funding goal. It’s also nice to see a gaming project pride itself on its inclusiveness, so all you activist gamers (you know who you are) might want to take a look for that reason alone.

Earthdawn 4th Edition is a new(ish) take on a classic RPG setting. It’s promising significant updates to the plot and setting, while maintaining the game that players of the original Earthdawn enjoyed. I’d admittedly never heard of Earthdawn before tonight, so my own ignorance precludes me from saying whether this is fact or fiction. If you did play the original version, or any of the other versions, this is worth a look.

Angry Prophet Games is putting up The End, a post-apocalyptic story-telling card game/RPG hybrid that rewards players for doing the right thing. I’m not sure how I feel about morality being used as a VP system, but it could be interesting. Also, the game has each player come up with their own moral or immoral choice during certain rounds (the point being that you roleplay your decision) . . . if my game group is anything like your game group, this is going to (d)evolve into satanic oneupsmanship pretty damn fast.

Some of our team had a chance to test drive NIKA (Eagle Games) at The Boston Festival of Indie Games last fall, and they came away very excited. I was not among them, but I trust their gamer instincts on this one. It’s a somewhat-abstract strategy game based on Ancient Greece. It plays a bit like chess, only you also have to worry about your flanks and politics.

Hayao Miyazaki (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and many more) is an iconic filmmaker with a distinctive style. The Whispering Road is an RPG that promises players the chance to explore a world inspired by Miyazaki and its designed to be simple enough to play with children. The Kickstarter page was fairly bare-bones at the time of this writing, but it’s already funded so I’m curious to see the final product.
